Torcello is a tiny green piece in the panorama of the Lagoon. In ancient times it was inhabited by thousands of people and was the center of commercial traffic before the rise of Venice. It still has an exceptionally remarkable architectual set.

Murano is the world capital of artistic glass. It is still a totally artisan workmanship and is very fascinating to observe the process. The Murano glass furnaces offer free demonstrations of glass processing. You can see master glassmakers at work in giant ovens, while creating wonderful glass artifacts.

Burano is a pictoresque island famous for its brightly colored houses and handmade lace. In the 16th century the lace of Burano became the most famous in Europe and in 1872 was created the first school of lace, known as "Scuola dei Merletti".

Venetian Lido is a thin island 12 km long, which divides the Lagoon of Venice from the sea. The island is reachable only by boats and ferry-boat. Lido is one of the few Venetian Lagoon island in which you can find driveways.
Poets and writers chose Lido as destination or dwelling place; we can remember George Gordon Byron and Thomas Mann.
All over the island we can find buildings of the 18th century, like "Murazzi", a work to protect the Lagoon from the sea. Near Lido's downtown architecture becomes rich liberty style buildings.

The Cinema Festival of Venice takes places every year, between the end of August and the beginning of September, into the historical Palazzo del Cinema, situated on Lungomare Marconi at Lido. It's the holdest cinema festival in the world, in fact the firstedition was celebrated in 1932.
