October 31st

Halloween is a very famous festival in the USA, but it actually has ancient Celtic origins.

On the 31st of October, in the Veneto region, it has been a common practice to cut the pumpkins out and use them as lanterns, putting inside of them a candle. They have been called "Lumere" of "Suche Baruche".
People used to leave them on the windowsill or along the canals in order to light up the streets and push the spiteful spirit of dead away.

On that day, children walked around with the "Lumere" nearby the cimitery and scared people, then they stopped by different houses and ask for dried fruit, hazelnuts and chestnuts.

Happy Halloween!.. and stay safe
