La Casa-Museo prende il nome dal suo ultimo proprietario, l’eclettico Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo. Il palazzo, una gemma dell’architettura gotica veneziana, fu fondato alla fine del XV secolo dai nobili Pesaro.
Mariano Fortuny lo acquistò all'inizio del XX secolo per farne il proprio atelier. L’artista spagnolo, infatti, si occupò di pittura, moda, scenografia e design.
Dopo un primo utilizzo dedicato alle sue sperimentazioni artistiche e scenotecniche, fondò con la moglie un piccolo laboratorio tessile che si trasformò in seguito in una vera e propria fabbrica, arrivando persino ad aprire delle boutique nelle maggiori capitali europee!
Spettacolare è la decorazione parietale del primo piano, dove troviamo il celebre “giardino d’inverno” e l’atelier di pittura dell’artista. Lo spazio è strutturato in quinte teatrali ed è una testimonianza importante dell’illimitata creatività di Fortuny.

The House-Museum takes its name from its last owner, the eclectic Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo. The palace is a gem of Venetian Gothic architecture, and it was founded at the end of the 15th century by the Pesaro family.
Mariano Fortuny bought it at the beginning of the 20th century and transformed it into his own atelier. He was a Spanish painter, stylist, scenographer, and designer.
After dedicating himself to artistic and scenography experiments, he founded a small textile workshop with his wife which later turned into an actual factory, then opened boutiques in some major European capitals!
The wall decoration on the first floor is spectacular. Here we can admire the famous "winter garden" and visit the artist's painting studio. The space is structured in theatrical scenes, and it is an important testimony of Fortuny's unlimited creativity.
