ESN Venezia, in collaborazione con l'Anda Venice Hostel, vi invita alla Cooking Lesson più strepitosa di sempre! Uno chef vi insegnerà a cucinare un primo piatto italiano e a preparare un drink abbinato! Una volta preparati, potrete gustare i piatti e assaporare i vostri drink tutti insieme con ottima musica!

Do you want to impress friends and family when you return home, by cooking a typical Italian dish for them? Do you want to conquer the girl or the boy you like? Do you want to charm your partner with Italian flavors? You know that the best way to somebodies heart is through the stomach. Or do you just want to cook and eat in good company? Well, this event is for you!
ESN Venice, in collaboration with Anda Venice Hostel, invites you to the most amazing Cooking Lesson ever! A chef will teach you how to cook an Italian first dish and to prepare a paired drink! Once prepared, you'll enjoy the dishes and your drinks all together with great music!

Vi siete chiesti perché il 21 novembre l’università é chiusa?
La Festa della Salute di Venezia, sconosciuta ai turisti, si celebra per commemorare la fine della peste avvenuta nel 1631, per intercessione della Vergine invocata dal Doge un anno prima, che uccise circa 80.000 veneziani. Per l’occasione viene allestito un ponte votivo sul Canal Grande così che tutti possano entrare nella Basilica della Salute, accendere un cero alla Madonna e pregare per la propria salute.
Fuori dalla Basilica, invece, vengono allestite molte bancarelle con cibi tipici di varie regioni d’Italia. Se voleste trascorrere questa giornata in compagnia e pranzare tutti assieme, vi aspettiamo davanti alla Biblioteca di Zattere alle 12:00!
Ognuno potrà comprare quello che vuole e mangiare direttamente alle bancarelle, i prezzi sono quelli dello street food delle fiere, dai 3 ai 10 € circa.

Do you know why university is closed on the 21st of November?
Venice Festa della Salute (Health Holiday), unknown to tourists, is celebrated to remember the end of a plague epidemy occurred in 1631, which killed around 80.000 venetians. The epidemy ended thanks to the Doge’s prayers to the Virgin Mary. In this occasion a votive bridge is built on the Grand Canal, so that everybody can go to the Basilica della Salute, light up a candle for Mary and pray for their own health.
Outside the church, instead, there are lots of stands with food from various regions of Italy. If you want to enjoy this party together and have lunch with your friends, we will wait for you in front of Zattere Library at 12:00 pm!
You can buy what you want to eat at the stands, the prices go from 3 to 10 €, the average for the street food in a fair.

Questa volta vi porteremo nel sestiere meno turistico di Venezia: Castello!
Ci vediamo venerdì 25 ottobre, ritrovo alle 18.30 in campo San Bortolo (davanti al negozio Luisa Spagnoli) per l'inizio del tour che ci porterà fino a campo San Francesco.
Alla fine ci sarà un'ultima tappa speciale che comprenderà anche una festa nel tipico locale Morion.
Le iscrizioni sono a numero chiuso, quindi non esitate a prenotare il vostro posto!

Are you ready for a second edition of Bacaro tour?
This time we will take you to the less touristy district of Venice: Castello!
See you on Friday, October 25th, meeting point at 6:30 pm in Campo San Bortolo (in front of Luisa Spagnoli store) for the start of the tour that will take us to Campo San Francesco.
At the end there will be a last special stay that will also include a party in the typical local Morion.
Spots are limited, so don't hesitate to book your place!

Passeggiare per le calli di Venezia è senza dubbio un’esperienza unica. A volte, tuttavia, viene voglia di salire in alto per poter ammirare la Serenissima da una posizione privilegiata. Per godere di una vista mozzafiato sulla città e scattare le migliori foto del panorama di Venezia, una visita alla terrazza del Fondaco dei Tedeschi fa al caso tuo! Si tratta di un palazzo affacciato sul Canal Grande, vicino al ponte di Rialto. Era la sede dei mercanti tedeschi che lo usavano come magazzino e alloggio. Esistente già dal XIII secolo, è stato ricostruito tra il 1505 e il 1508 in seguito ad un incendio.
Col bel tempo la vista può spaziare fino alle isole. Si vedono le cupole della Basilica di San Marco, il campanile di San Marco, il Canal Grande con i suoi palazzi, i tetti e le altane di Venezia, il Ponte di Rialto, i campanili delle chiese di Venezia, e mille altri particolari che si possono ammirare solo dall’alto.
E dopo la visita, per concludere in bellezza, berremo uno spritz in uno dei bacari più belli di Venezia! Venite per scoprire di quale si tratta!

Walking through the streets of Venice is undoubtedly a unique experience. Sometimes, however, you feel like going up high to admire the Serenissima from a privileged position. To enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and take the best pictures of Venice, a visit to the “Fondaco dei Tedeschi” terrace is perfect for you! It’s a building overlooking the Grand Canal, near the Rialto bridge. It was the seat of German merchants who used it as a warehouse and lodging. Existing since the XIII century, it was rebuilt between 1505 and 1508 following a fire.
In good weather the view can range up to the islands. You can see the domes of the Basilica of San Marco, the bell tower of San Marco, the Grand Canal with its palaces, the roofs and the “altane” (small terraces on the rooftop of the houses) of Venice, the Rialto Bridge, the bell towers of the churches of Venice, and a thousand other details that they can only be admired from the top.
And last but not least, we will drink a spritz in one of the nicest “bacari” in Venice! Come to find out which one!

The semester is about to start. You’ve probably just arrived to the city and you didn’t have so much time to give a look around, but don’t worry! We’re here for that
Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and there’s nothing better than a city tour to discover it! We will do our best to show you the best spots in the city and to help you to improve your sense of direction… you know, in Venice Maps doesn’t work very well!
So, come with us and enjoy this afternoon in the typical venetian streets! We’re looking forward to meet you all!

Sei da poco arrivato a Venezia e quale modo migliore per scoprire angoli insoliti, e non turistici se con un gioco insieme a noi di ESN?
Vogliamo metterti alla prova con una caccia fotografica durante la quale dovrai cercare e riconoscere i posti reali attraverso le foto.

Sarete divisi in gruppi, questa è una vera gara in cui la prima squadra che terminerà il percorso stabilito (avete un’ora di tempo) avendo identificato tutte le foto che gli verranno date, vincerà. Non dimenticare la macchina fotografica o il cellulare!
Ulteriori dettagli verranno forniti sia in questo evento sia prima dell’inizio della caccia fotografica.

You have recently arrived in Venice and which better way to discover unusual, and not touristy, corners than a game together with ESN?
We want to test you with a photographic hunting during which you will have to search and recognize the real places through the pictures.

You will be divided into groups, this is a real race in which the first team who will finish the established route (you will have 1 hour), having identified all the photos that will be given, wins. Do not forget to bring your camera or smartphone!

More details and rules will be explained both later in this event and before starting the photo hunting.

Una delle cose più belle di ogni viaggio è sicuramente il cibo, ogni Paese ha il proprio piatto tradizionale e quando si viaggia bisogna provare pietanze nuove e tipiche. ESN Venezia ti da’ l’opportunità di viaggiare in tutto il mondo in una sola serata…
Parlando di cucina, non abbiamo ancora superpoteri, però partecipando alla Cena Internazionale porterai il tuo piatto tipico da far assaggiare agli altri e proverai cibi nuovi provenienti da tutto il mondo. Dovrai solamente cucinare un piatto tradizionale del tuo Paese, non importa se non sei Masterchef, nessuno di noi lo è, l’importante è provare a dare il massimo!
Se cucini così male che i tuoi piatti costituiscono un rischio per l’umanità, hai la possibilità di venire senza portare niente, ma in questo caso dovrai pagare 5€ per l’ingresso (solo contanti).
Attenzione, alla cena saranno presenti giudici segreti che dovranno provare tutti i piatti (anche se sono allergici a qualche ingrediente) per decretare il miglior cibo della serata.
Per favore scrivi gli ingredienti del tuo piatto così da evitare problemi ad allergici, intolleranti, vegetariani, vegani, e per permettere ad ognuno di rispettare le proprie abitudini religiose.
All’ingresso, chi porterà del cibo e chi è in possesso della ESNcard avrà la precedenza. Se non hai ancora avuto l’occasione di passare dal nostro ufficio e tesserarti, nessun problema, potrai registrarti direttamente all’entrata.

One of the most important parts of traveling is food, every country has its own traditional dish and when traveling you have to try new and typical things. Esn Venezia offers you the opportunity to travel the whole world in one night…
Culinary speaking, we haven’t gotten superpowers, yet. By taking part to our International Dinner you will bring something from your country to others and you will try something new from other countries. You just have to cook one dish from your country, but don’t worry if you’re not a Masterchef we aren’t either. The important thing is that you try your best!!!
What happens if you are a danger to the human kind if you set foot in a kitchen with theintention of cooking? In order to protect humanity we will let you come without having to bring a dish, but you have to pay an entrance fee of 5€ (only cash).
Be aware, at the Dinner, there will be secret judges that have to try every dish (even if they are allergic to the ingredients) because they will decide the best dish of the night.
For the sake of everyone else it would be great if you write down the ingredients of your dish for allergy purposes, Vegetarians, Vegans and different Beliefs of the participants.
Priority entrance is reserved to people who will bring food and have already the ESNcard. If you haven’t had the chance to go to our office and get your ESNcard don’t worry, you can make it before entering.

Vivrete e studierete a Venezia per un po’ e sentirete parlare molto dei bacari e del famoso “Bacaro Tour”. Ma di cosa si tratta?
La parola “bacaro” viene dall’espressione veneziana “far bacara” che significa “fare festa, fare rumore, divertirsi”. Ad oggi i bacari sono autentiche osterie dove c’è solo una cosa da fare: bere un’ombra!
“Ombra” è il modo in cui i veneziani chiamano un piccolo bicchiere di vino e volendo è possibile accompagnarlo con un “cicchetto”, una piccola fetta di pane ricoperta con diversi ingredienti.

You’ll live and study in Venice for a while and you’ll hear a lot speaking about bacari and the famous “Bacaro Tour”. But what is that?
The word "bacaro" comes from the Venetian expression "far bacara” which means “to party, to make noise, to have fun”. Nowadays bacari are authentic taverns where there’s only thing to do: drink “ombra”! “Ombra” is the way venitians call a small glass of wine and if you want you can have a “cicchetto” with it, a small slice of bred with different ingredients on it.
